1/30/17 Immigration Ban Fallout

People are protesting all around the US especially at airports.  Families are being broken up and detained even if they live in the US and have valid green cards.  Those that have worked with the US military as interpreters have even been held.

tRumps minions are spinning it that it was President Obamas fault.

President Obama put restrictions on those people did not have to have a visa to come in to the US from those countries.  So sick of hearing the liars spin.  They think we are stupid. . .Well, I guess some are.

All this has started the violence against anyone that looks foreign or Muslim.  Even Quebec had a mosque shooting - 6 dead while praying.

I am leaving town for a few days, maybe the world will be back in shape by the time I get back.
Actually the rump will probably have destroyed something else by then judging by his performance so far.  And only 1 week down....

Many legal immigrants with green cards cannot return after being out of the USA.  Especially bad are those that helped our military as interpreters and face possible death if they can't get back here.

It is a good thing that Egypt did not have tRump as leader when Joseph and the Holy family immigrated to Egypt to protect Jesus and Mary.

The red countries are the ones that have the immigrant ban on them and the yellow ones are the ones that terrorists HAVE come from but they are not banned ........maybe because tRump has business in those countries, just maybe

Protesters are gathering at many airports tonight.  About 10 pm Eastern time a Judge put a hold on the immigration ban regarding the people with green cards... We don't know how long the hold will last.

It turns out that the tRump Admin didn't even ck with legal to see what the implications legally where going to be.  These people are irresponsible.

In Saudi Arabia (Daily News) Just one of tRumps businesses in the middle east.

Republicans see an opportunity to roll back the Endangered Species Act, which has become one of the government's most powerful conservation tools.

Just following the tRump $ this week:
Trump shoveled in money this week from his dual roles as president and as owner of Trump businesses.
Some examples (courtesy of Slate’s Josh Vorhees):
1. Trump replaced the head of the General Services Administration, the federal agency that effectively serves as the landlord for the new Trump hotel in Washington and has been asked to investigate whether Trump is now in violation of that lease.
2. He signed orders clearing the way for the disputed Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipelines to proceed. As recently as last summer, the president owned between $15,000 and $50,000 in stock in the company building the Dakota project, and its chief executive donated $100,000 to the Trump Victory Fund, a joint effort between Trump and the Republican Party. (Trump claims to have sold off his stock portfolio before the election, though he has not provided documentation proving he did.)
3. He signed an order suspending visas from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Not on the list were other predominantly Muslim countries where Trump has existing businesses: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia, Turkey, Qatar, Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and Azerbaijan.
4. Trump is pushing forward his plan for a massive, privatization-heavy infrastructure bill that appears tailor-made for cronyism and self-dealing. (For more on this, please see our video.)
5. Based on the new power of the “Trump” brand, the CEO of Trump Hotels announced a plan to triple the number of Trump hotels in the United States.
6. The Trump Organization hired a longtime Republican lawyer as its ethics adviser and a longtime Trump executive as its chief compliance counsel. It’s all optics. Neither will raise a fuss because they’d put their jobs at risk.
7. The Trump-owned Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, doubled its initiation fee to $200,000 for new members.
8. The American Chamber of Commerce in Canada, a business lobby focused on North American trade, made a sudden, last-second decision to move a scheduled event from the Vancouver home of a U.S. diplomat to the newest addition to the Trump Hotel family in the same city. (The Trump Organization does not own the Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver, but it makes money managing the property and cutting naming-rights deals.)

Bannan tells the press corps. to shut up and listen for awhile.  He wants them to listen to more or their alternative facts.

Oh, and he did ban gov workers from lobbying for a number of years.  Didn't hear much about that since his immigration ban blew up.

I actually agree with it.

* On January 23rd, 2017, DT reinstated the global gag order, which defunds international organizations that even mention abortion as a medical option.
* On January 23rd, 2017, Spicer said that the US will not tolerate China’s expansion onto islands in the South China Sea, essentially threatening war with China.
* On January 23rd, 2017, DT repeated the lie that 3-5 million people voted “illegally” thus costing him the popular vote.
* On January 23rd, 2017, it was announced that the man who shot the anti-fascist protester in Seattle was released without charges, despite turning himself in.

* On January 24th, 2017, Director of the Department of Health and Human Service nominee Tom Price characterized federal guidelines on transgender equality as “absurd.”
* On January 24th, 2017, DT ordered the resumption of construction on the Dakota Access Pipeline, while the North Dakota state congress considers a bill that would legalize hitting and killing protestors with cars if they are on roadways.
* On January 24th, 2017, it was discovered that police officers had used confiscated cell phones to search the emails and messages of the 230 demonstrators now facing felony riot charges for protesting on January 20th, including lawyers and journalists whose email accounts contain privileged information of clients and sources.
And today: the wall and a Muslim ban.

Friday, Trump signed an executive order explicitly freezing refugee applications from Syria. It's unclear how his pledge to help persecuted Christians from that country will accord with the order.

1/27/17 This is just getting worse!

tRump has shut down the comment phone lines into the White House:

For anyone who has been trying to call the White House -- only to be redirected to the White House website or Facebook page – here’s a tool to deliver your message to Trump.
On this site, after filling our a form with your email and phone number, you’ll receive a call that connects you to one of Trump's properties -- a hotel or golf course or resort. Whatever it is, tell the Trump manager that until Trump steps away from his businesses, you consider their property no different from the Oval Office, and you want to talk about the issues that matter most -- pulling federal funding for reproductive health and women's organizations, for example, or building the wall, or repealing the Affordable Care Act.
Wall Street executives and foreign leaders use Trump's businesses to reach him, so why shouldn't the rest of us?

But then:  He did do pretty good at the press conference with the British Prime Minister.

And the he put a ban on 7 muslim countries from allowing people from coming to the US for 30 days.  By then he will come up with what Extreme Vetting is and all muslims will go through that.  He would allow Christians in before muslims.  The odd thing is the 7 countries does not include the countries that the 9-11 terrorists came from, even though this whole exercise is to stop terrorists.

1/26/17 Today is going to be busy...again

This morning the Republican Retreat is being held in Philadelphia.  tRump is speaking.

tRumps speech wasn't as bad as I had expected.

He only spoke about half of the time about himself and what is great about him.  Then went off on the investigation of illegal voting and I nodded off.

By the time he had gotten to the hall to speak he had insulted Mexico and told the President of Mexico if he wasn't paying for THE WALL he might as well turn around and go back home.  So, the Mexican President said again Mexico is not paying for the wall...and canceled meeting with tRump.

Then tRumps Spicer said we were going to charge a 20% tax on Mexican goods.  Many repubs didn't like that and the WH started to walk it back.

This is really messing with our relationship with Mexico

Scientists are planning to march in DC against tRumps gag order against government scientists.

State Department

Remember Trump dismissed all US ambassadors around the world with no one to replace them yet.
Career State Department Heads turn in their resignations as required when a new President comes in.
Instead of filling their positions, tRumps people just firing the top 4 people.  So now we have no ambassadors and no one at the working top at the State Department.

The British Prime Minister
The Prime Minister gave a very good speech.  She emphisized how it was good for all to be friends.

New tRump Issue

Now he is bringing up something he had talked about during the campaign.  He had said that we should have taken all Iraq's oil.  Pushing it for another big dust up.

Then out pops torture!  and "Black Sites" which are torture places.  and renewing waterboarding?
Don't ask me why these thing came up, except maybe he wants to torture the press corp?  Luckily the repubs didn't seem to want to go there and John Mcann squashed it really quickly.

Is trump using a private server and an insecure phone?  He very well may be....RNC server.

Trump Owns Stake In Hotly Disputed $3.8 Billion Oil Pipeline, Conflict Of Interest Looms

On imigration:

An executive order calling for construction of "the wall" in border with Mexico.

An executive reinstating the Secure Communities Program which allows ICE to target illegal immigrants to be deported.  That also includes keeping people from any country that has a majority of muslims out of the US and keeps Fed money from sanctuary cities.

On Torture:
He said he has heard that torture works and would impose it within the law and if his Sec of Defense wanted it.

Illegal Voting:
tRump is ordering a Major investigation into his claims more than 3 million people voted illegally.  She said she even prayed for him, then she prayed for our country.

Ban on Public Communication
Departments ordered to no communication on social media or to news. EPA, FDA, National Park services and probably more were ordered to lock down web sites.  The object was to stop information on climate change to be promulgated.

Some Departments computers were scrubbed of climate change information.  Sientists have been franticly trying to copy all their research before it was destroyed.

The official White House Facebook page had a lot of info deleted from before trumps inauguration.

tRump just can't get over the insecurity caused by Hilary Clinton winning the popular vote.  So again it becomes a big issue.  He brought it up at a dinner at the White House for congress leaders Of course he had to bring it up to Pelosi and Schumer, of all people along with a bunch of others.  Now those two are not going to be "yes" men.  He just had to say that millions of illegal people voted in the election - (if he repeats it enough times, some people will believe it.) he says that is why he lost the popular vote.  Of course, Pelosi had to correct him and he is still pouting.  All the news media got wind of it and it became a huge news story all day.

He needs to shut his mouth.

Spicer on lying- I believe sometimes we can disagree with the facts. (Facts are facts, anything else is NOT a fact.

At least Spicer said today that tRrump believes the illegal vote thing, (left it open that Spicer doesn't believe it.) and if tRump believes it, it must be true!

He ok'ed the finishing  of Keystone and the Dakota Access pipelines.  The Dakota Access pipelines cross the Missouri river twice.  This is farming land.  if there is a pipeline break it will not just affect all the people downstream but you and your children may end up eating corn, soybeans and wheat grown on contaminated ground.  Relatives of ours, normally very conservative, are concerned about this project.  They are farmers along the river and the river floods every few years.  If the river is contaminated it will not be able to be cleaned up. A flood will just bring the contaminated further onto the land.

tRump has ordered the departments that have any climate information to NOT publish it.
Orders EPA to not give out press updates or news conferences.  National Park Service employees have created a separate twitter account and on their own time they have decided to post there.
Their site is:

WASHINGTON — Congressional Republicans quietly closed a year-long investigation into Flint, Michigan’s crisis over lead in its drinking water, faulting both state officials and the Environmental Protection Agency for contamination that has affected nearly 100,000 residents.

Oh, well.  Tomorrow is supposed to be especially exciting.

Jan 23, 2017 Wishing for "normal"

Usually we don't have to pay much attention to our government except when something special comes up.  Now every day we have to be on top of things.

I don't like logging all the time, but you know, the American brain has a short memory span. especially mine sometimes!

KellyAnn Conway -  translation "alternative facts = White House lies"

Today -
-US is no longer in the Trans-Pacific trade deal.  I don't know if that is good or bad.

-There is now a hiring freeze in civilian agencies.  Speaking of that, One of his first things he did was to fire all ambasadors around the world.  They were supposed to be moved out of the embassy as soon as he took the oath.  Now we don't have any ambassadors.

-Restored and expanded the so-called Mexico City policy that prohibits US aid from supporting international groups that promote abortion.

-An executive order freezing unpublished Obama-era regulations.  Wonder what that will hurt.

Jan 22, 2017

I had forgot to mention that as soon as he could tRump fired all the US ambassadors throughout the world.  He hasn't picked replacements so we are a little short on representation throughout the world right now.

That was not very smart, now was it.

I guess all day yesterday he was throwing a fit about someone comparing pictures of President Obama's inauguration to tRumps.  It showed how many more people attended President Obama's and that ticked him off.  He stood in front of the memorial of lost CIA people and ranted about how the pictures lied.

I found it interesting to see totally empty bleachers in the background of the inaugural parade.

tRump then had Spicer yell at the Press Corp about lying with the numbers.

Today Kellyann Conway was on all the programs.  She let us know when they lie it is called "alternate facts".

She also said that tRump would not put out his tax returns.

She also threw a little fit about the media, sort of theatened Chuck Todd "may have to change their relationship"

Jan 21, 2017 - Women's March

Friends and I got big and brave.  We all feel the need to stand up now and voice our views.  None of us has done anything like this and we did have to overcome some fear.  But, we did it.  We went to the Women's March in San Francisco.

The Bart was crowded and our train had to wait at places for trains ahead to make space.  There were so many people that it took them longer to get out of the trains and to be able to move on the platforms.

We stopped for a snack before going up to the street.  We had gotten off at Powell which is as far as the trains were going because of the crowds at the other stations.  After snack we went up to the street level and the March was just passing.

We joined the March as it was not scary at all.  Everyone had each other's back, and no rabble rousers.  The parade filled all of Market street and the wide sidewalks too.  At each of the intersections we did a special little cheer.  Everyone was is such a great mood.  It was raining but no one cared.  It was about 56 degrees so not cold.  We had dressed for cold and wet.  The city was absolutely beautiful!

It took us about an hour and a half to walk down to the ferry building which had been in the middle of our view as we walked.  When we got to Justin Herman Plaza we started back on the sidewalk.  There was just enough room to walk the opposite direction of the March.  Instead of going down to the first several BART stations we decided to walk all the way back to Powell.  We were enjoying the full street of marchers.  Hundreds and hundreds....  We got back to Powell and we still couldn't see the end of the March.

We had taken this very seriously but we had found it so much fun too with all our supporters!

Hopefully we won't have to do this again, BUT we will if we find it necessary.

100,000 marched in San Francisco!

January 20, 2017

1.  One of the parting gifts of President Obama’s time in the White House was a cut in the fees for mortgages
Trump revoked the price cut because he’s such a nice and generous man. While the price cut had not yet gone into effect, but was slated to on January 27 — it will now never happen.
Overall Trump and his team robbed American citizens of $500 a month worth of savings on a typical loan.  So much for helping those families trying to get by and helping the economy.

2.  President Trump and his administration got right to work on Friday, taking steps to dismantle the Affordable Care Act
The new president signed an executive order to "minimize the economic burden" of key provisions of the Affordable Care Act pending its repeal, allowing government agencies not to enforce regulations that impose a financial burden on a state, company or individual.

I Promise.

"I listened as they called our President a Muslim.

I listened as they called him and his family a pack of monkeys.

I listened as they said he wasn't born here.

I watched as they blocked every single path to progress that they could

I saw the pictures of him as Hitler.

I watched them shut down the government and hurt the entire nation twice.

I watched them turn their backs on every opportunity to open worthwhile dialog.

I watched them say that they would not even listen to any choice for Supreme Court no matter who the nominee was.

I listened as they openly said that they will oppose him at every turn.

I watched as they did just that.

I listened.

I watched.

I paid attention.

Now, I'm being called on to be tolerant.

To move forward.

To denounce protesters.

To "Get over it."

To accept this...
I will not.

I will do my part to make sure this great American mistake becomes the embarrassing footnote of our history that it deserves to be.

I will do this as quickly as possible every chance I get.

I will do my part to limit the damage that this man can do to my country.

I will watch his every move and point out every single mistake and misdeed in a loud and proud voice.

I will let you know in a loud voice every time this man backs away from a promise he made to them.

Them. The people who voted for him.

The ones who sold their souls and prayed for him to win.

I will do this so that they never forget.

And they will hear me.

They will see it in my eyes when I look at them.

They will hear it in my voice when I talk to them.

They will know that I know who they are.

They will know that I know what they are.

Do not call for my tolerance. I've tolerated all I can.

Now it's their turn to tolerate ridicule.

Be aware, make no mistake about it, every single thing that goes wrong in our country from this day forward is now Trump's fault, just as much as they thought it was President Obama's.

I find it unreasonable for them to expect from me what they were entirely unwilling to

Just saying . . .

#  Republicans decided that President Obama's term of office was over on February 13, 2016 instead of 11 months later. They figured he didn't have the right to have an appointment to replace Antonin Scalia brought up to be confirmed.

#  The night before the opening of the new congressional session, Jan 3, 2017, AND the House republicans held a closed meeting to ditch the independent oversight committee of the Ethics committee.  *Surprisingly, trump chided them for it, though he agreed with it. He just thought it could have
waited a bit.

#  After so many citizens yelled and trump tweeted the republicans pulled the changes they made last night to ditch the independent oversight committee of the Ethics committee off the table.

On Monday evening, Trump took to Twitter to deny North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s claim that his nation was in the “final stage” of developing a nuclear-armed ballistic missile capable of hitting the U.S. mainland. Trump then followed up with another tweet to say China wasn’t doing enough to temper the young despot’s belligerence.
China has hit back at Donald Trump’s claim that Beijing isn’t doing enough to rein in rogue state North Korea, cautioning the U.S. President-elect not to “escalate” an already tense situation on the Korean Peninsula through his liberal use of social media.
tRump still doesn't believe US intelligence, believes Asange over them. "Russia didn't hack into election stuff.

Ted Cruz introduced a bill to limit terms for Congress, house and senate.

With the election of Donald Trump as president on November 8, 2016, there is a source quoting one of Trump's speeches in October 2016 in which he said that he plans to impose term limits on Congress within his first hundred days in office.
tRump tweets he is going to shake up the CIA.
Repubs are railling about doing away with ObamaCare.  tRump telling them to be careful. They don't offer anything to replace it.  Obama says "let them own it".

Repubs are also mentioning privatizing Medicare, Medicaid, SS.
sorry - missed a few days but a friend didn't:

1. Trump fires all Ambassadors and Special Envoys, ordering them out by inauguration day.
2. House brings back the Holman rule allowing them to reduce an individual civil service, SES positions, or political appointee's salary to $1, effectively firing them by amendment to any piece of legislation. We now know why they wanted names and positions of people in Energy and State.

The rule allows individual members of Congress to target specific federal workers for firing or salary reduction and/or individual government offices for reduction or elimination. Not well-publicized was the potential of the rule for fostering corruption.6 hours ago

3. Senate schedules 6 simultaneous hearings on cabinet nominees and triple-books those hearings with Trump's first press conference in months and an ACA budget vote, effectively preventing any concentrated coverage or protest.
4. House GOP expressly forbids the Congressional Budget Office from reporting or tracking ANY costs related to the repeal of the ACA.
5. Trump continues to throw the intelligence community under the bus to protect Putin, despite the growing mountain of evidence that the Russians deliberately interfered in our election.
6. Trump breaks a central campaign promise to make Mexico pay for the wall by asking Congress (in other words, us, the taxpayers) to pay for it.
7. Trump threatens Toyota over a new plant that was never coming to the US nor will take jobs out of the US.
8. House passes the REINS act, giving them veto power over any rules enacted by any federal agency or department--for example, FDA or EPA bans a drug or pesticide, Congress can overrule based on lobbyists not science. Don't like that endangered species designation, Congress kills it.
We - progressive, liberal, libertarian and conservative - need to all wake up to what is actually happening to our beloved country.

Turns out it looks like Russians really have stuff on trump to compromise him....Golden Shower.

He will have his son-in-law work next door to him.

Today was tRumps first press conference.  The subject was supposed to be how he was going to get rid of the appearance of conflict of interest.  Turns out he is just going to turn everything over to the 2 sons to run, period.

It just so happens the "Golden Shower" info was leaked and he is so mad at the media, again.  CNN was on the hit list and the whole press conference was so childish.  he is in a big snit and now he can be called trumpee.  It is all a mess.  Still.

Trump keeps it up, something every day.

As Robin Wright notes, just since this past Friday Trump has made the world a far more dangerous place. He has:
1. Lauded Britain’s departure from the European Union as a “great thing,” and predicted—and implicitly welcomed—the dismantling of the entire E.U., a bloc backed for sixty years by the United States as the key to healing the divisions that sparked two world wars. “I believe others will leave,” he said. “I do think keeping it together is not going to be as easy as a lot of people think.”
2. Called NATO —the centerpiece of trans-Atlantic security—“obsolete.” He charged that it “didn’t deal with terrorism,” even though its first deployment outside Europe was to Afghanistan after 9/11. From 2003 to 2014, NATO commanded the International Security Assistance Force, which, at its peak, included a hundred and thirty thousand troops from fifty-one NATO and partner countries. It was the longest and toughest single mission in NATO history.
3. Put German Chancellor Angela Merkel, one of America’s half dozen closest allies, in the same category as Russian President Vladimir Putin, a man who controls the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, seized the Crimea from Ukraine, and has warplanes bombing the opposition to President Bashar al-Assad in Syria. “I start off trusting both, but let’s see how long that lasts,” he said. “It may not last long at all.
4. Warned the German company BMW and other foreign automakers they’d face a tariff of 35 percent if they tried to import cars built at plants in Mexico to the United States.
5. Said that the long-standing “One China” policy—initiated by President Nixon in 1972 and a cornerstone of U.S. policy ever since—is no longer guaranteed. “Everything is under negotiation, including One China.” (Shortly after he won the election, Trump had a telephone conversation with Taiwan’s President, Tsai Ing-wen—ending a protocol in place since 1979 that froze communication between American and Taiwanese leaders.)
Trump has already disparaged the principles, institutions, and alliances central to U.S. foreign policy. Some date back to the Republic’s founding, while others have been adopted since the mid-twentieth century to prevent global conflagrations. Even before becoming president, Trump is a clear and present danger to America and the world.

Post Christmas

After getting a terrific head cold right after Christmas I am now getting back my energy slowly but surely.  Just about everyone I know had this bug before me and I wasn't surprised when I got it.  At least it wasn't the flu, I've had the shot.  This only lasted about a week but was a real duzzy.

Today the weatherman has said it will rain all day and heavy this afternoon.  We will see.  The SF Bay Area has so many micro environment that the general weather predictions do not follow in may areas (especially ours).

I hope to get over to Ardenwood to un-decorate the sewing/sun room that my daughter and I decorated for Christmas.  So far the rain hasn't started so if I get over there quick enough I might miss it!
