Feb. 19, 2017

Well, lets see, I know there were some things that happened with different Administration people but I have forgotten what they were.  Kellyanne says she is not going to be on air any more....thank God.  Her bold face lying was making me just turn the channel.  She is aging faster than twump.  Then the Sec of Labor nominee stepped down amidst scandal.

twump has gone completely fruitcake at his "campaign" rally in Florida.  He said that there were riots or something in Sweden last night......FALSE NEWS.  He is so stupid he watches FOX news and takes it as truth.  The Swedes thinks he is nuts because they have not had terrorist  problems.  OK, we have Australia, Sweden, Mexico, so far insulted by twump. And, my daughter reminded me, also he stirred up China with his 2 China policy which he quickly changed back to a 1-China policy.

Since Mike Flynn was fireed from National Security adviser because of his connections with Russia, twump is looking for a replacement.  General David Petraeus dropped out of the you blame him.

February 18, 2017 Another disturbing week

This seems to be the normal now days.  Things that are good are washed away by the trump admin and congress.  I swear the republicans want us to return to the 1700s.  There really are reasons many of these laws and regulations have been put in.  We learn as we go on and they were established to solve a problem.  Just because the problem doesn't exist any more doesn't mean the law should be done away with.....usually it is keeping the problem at bay.

So, this week:

twump has a popularity of 38% in the largest polls.
He is still tweeting crazy twitters and ranting whenever a camera is on him.  This week he has been mad at the FBI CIA, John McCann, Hillary Clinton, and biggest of all, the terrible Media!   There are probably a few more I can't remember now.

National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was fired by twump for lying to VP Pence saying he had not discussed sanctions with the Russian Ambassador when he called him the day President Obama put sanctions on Russia for hacking the DNC and for trying to sway the election.

It turns out information was leaked out that the phone calls were tapped by the FBI (common knowledge).  They showed that Flynn had lied to Pence and also the FBI.  The Temp. Attorney General Sally Bates (the one trump had fired regarding the immigration ban) had told both President Obama and trump that Flynn had made the call and did discuss easing the sanctions. trump didn't think anything wrong with doing that, though it is against the law for civilians to conduct foreign diplomacy,

Instead twrump has been ranting about the Fake News and the Fake Media.  He says Flynn is a great man and didn't do anything wrong (even though he fired him).

Jeff sessions was confirmed as Attorney General.
twrump signed a bill allowing pollution of streams by coal mining operations.

twrump signed a bill allowing oil companies to be able to hide bribes to foreign governments.  Tollison should be really happy with this one.  trump said it will take away a regulation from "burdening American extraction companies".

The President Obama-era transgender protection effort was reversed by a judge ruling.  Immediately Jeff Sessions said the DoJ will not contest the judge's ruling.

Andrew Puzder was nominated as Sec. of Labor.  but twump recalled his name after several scandals.
He nominated Alex Acosta.  Acosta had been in charge of challenging the registration of 23,000 voters during the Bush admin.

He issued a new ObamaCare rule that makes getting coverage more difficult.

ICE raids have been conducted in several states, arresting "dreamers" or others never convicted of a crime.

twump gave a news conference yesterday.  Ranted on the Media, praised Flynn, praised himself for winning election and acted very weird.
He will be holding a campaign rally in Florida as he is going down on his weekend trip to mara-laga,  He seems to miss the adulation of his supporters.

to allow coal-mining operations to put more pollution in streams.

from Mother Jones:

Council staff members are now being told to keep papers to a single page, with lots of graphics and maps. “The president likes maps,” one official said.
Two people with direct access to the White House leadership said Mr. Flynn was surprised to learn that the State Department and Congress play a pivotal role in foreign arms sales and technology transfers. So it was a rude discovery that Mr. Trump could not simply order the Pentagon to send more weapons to Saudi Arabia — which is clamoring to have an Obama administration ban on the sale of cluster bombs and precision-guided weapons lifted — or to deliver bigger weapons packages to the United Arab Emerates.

They are also going after the Endangered Species Act.

Micheal Flynn has resigned as National Security Director.  He was talking policy with Russia before tRump was inaugarated.  Against the law.  He was telling the Russians not to worry about the sanctions that President Obama put in place, that tRump would take care of them when he got in.

2/11/17 Third week of Trump

It is very hard to keep up, but these are some of the things that happened this week.
Congressman Bill Pascrell wrote a letter to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) ,  demanding a law which has been on the books since 1924 be used to force Trump to release his taxes. The law says members of Congress can insist on seeing documents to address any potential conflicts of interest, and Trump must adhere to the congressional order. He sited a law which has been on the books since 1924 be used to force Trump to release his taxes. From "The Nation"

A Washington state judge ruled put a stay on the travel ban because of the injuries done to their state.  Travel ban stay is effective on all the the US.

tRump labeled the Washington judge a "so-called judge" alarming experts that felt it was an attack on the fundamental system of checks and balances.

He fought for the travel ban in court and lost.

He signed 3 tough-on crime executive orders (that don't really do anything other than telling federal agencies to enforce existing laws, share more intell info, create various studies and commissions about crime.

Turned around his view of recognizing Taiwan on its own (which had upset China).  The One China policy had been in affect since 1979 in the US.  Even though flawed tRump had called it into question without building any diplomatic groundwork or giving advance warning and doing it before he became president.

He also had tough talk followed by a retreat to routine policy on settlements in Israel and two-state solution, administration actions on Iran following an Iran missile attack, and now relations with China.

Released a list of terrorist attacks the media supposedly didn't cover.  He is still on a media attack on the "dishonest" media.  It was proved the media had covered all incidents on the list, even where no one had been hurt in a foreign country. He is trying to make people not trust the main stream media.

Kellyanne Conway gave a "free commercial" for Ivanka's company, violating federal ethics rules.  She has been counseled.

Melania tRump sued  a British tabloid for publishing she had been an "elite escort" and that it hurt her brand... Her case suggested strongly that she intended to capitalize on being "first lady" to establish "multi-million dollar business relationships for a multi-year term."

Obamacare "Repeal and Replace" that was to take place the first day he came in  has gone from "immediate" to "its going to take a little longer.
The Secretary of Education“Individuals with Disabilities Education Act” website has been removed from the Internet Education site. Why? This is unclear, but it has been the doing of the newly confirmed, and woefully unqualified, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos who only got her job because her family has donated over $200 million to Republican candidates.

A break from the real world - Pacific Grove

A couple of wonderful, beautiful days in Pacific Grove earlier this week.

This painting started out as a value study in sepia tones.  Yesterday I added the color.

This painting was done at Point Lobos, south of Carmel.  Another gorgeous day!  The sunlight was flowing down the cliff and hitting the rocks below.  By the time I finished the details the water had risen and the cliff looked entirely different, no sunlit spots.

Week 2 in tRump World

Saturday, Jan 28, 2017

Protests continue at airports across the country amid confusion over tRumps travel ban.  Immigration attorneys begin offering their services pro bono.  Late on Saturday, a federal judge issued a stay on the deportations of valid visa holders after they have landed in the US in response to an ACLU lawsuit.
tRump reshuffles the National Security Council, elevating controversial chief strategist Steve Bannon to be a permanent member of the principals committee, giving him equal billing with other Cabinet-level officials. The director of National Intelligence and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who are normally permanent members, will now only attend when pertinent issues are being discussed.
tRump calls several foreign leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He also has a tense call with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.  Details have not been this yet.  tRump tells Turnbull it was "the worst call by far" that he (tRump) has had that day and the two clash on the Obama administration's deal to accept refugees from the country.

tRump signs several executive orders--an ethics order banning administration appointees from ever lobbying foreign governments and from lobbying for 5 years after they leave office.
He also directs the administration to develop a "comprehensive plan to defeat ISIS.

Sunday, Jan 29

A US Navy Seal is killed during a raid in Yemen targeted against al-Quaida militants, the first military casualty of tRump's admin.  Questions have been raised over how the operation -- which also is believed to have killed several women and children --was carried out.

Protests continue at airports over the tRump travel ban.

Monday, January 30

Acting Attorney General Sally Yates (a holdover from the Obama Admin) announces she will direct Justice Department lawyers not to defend tRump's travel ban.  Hours later, the president fires her and replaces her with Dana Boente, the top fed prosecutor in Virginia, as interim attorney general until his nominee, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, is confirmed by the Senate

More Republicans continue to speak out against tRump's travel ban, voicing concern over its implementation.

Former President Obama breaks his silence since leaving office, saying through a spokesman that "American values are at stake."

tRump signs an executive order that says for every regulation the executive branch proposes, two others must be repealed.

Tuesday, January 31

tRump nominates federal appeals court Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the seat of the late Justice Scalia.  The evening ceremony in the White House's East gives an aura of a reality TV show.  Conservatives praise his pick, which was a major campaign issue after Senate Republicans refused to take up President Obama's nominee, Judge Merrick Garland, for much of 2016.

Wednesday, Feb 1

National Security Advisor Michael Flynn makes an announcement that the tRump administration is putting Iran "on notice" after Iran conducted a ballistic missile test.
tRump and Ivanka traveled to Dover Air Base for the return of the remains
of Navy SEAL Willian Owens, who was killed in the Yemen raid.
The AP reported that during a call with the Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto last week, tRump threatens to send in the US military to stop the "bad hombres down there".  Mexico denies the remarks.

Thursday, Feb. 2

At the annual National Prayer Breakfast, tRump, in his remarks at the podium, called out the low ratings of the NBC reality show " Celebrity Apprentice, and criticized the new host, action star and former CA Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.  "And I want to just pray for Arnold, if we can, for those ratings, OK.," the president said.
tRump pledges at the National Prayer Breakfast to repeal the Johnson Amendment which prohibits tax-exempt religious groups from politics from the pulpit.

Friday, Feb. 3

A Federal judge in Seattle temporarily halted the executive order on immigration and travel from some Muslim-majority countries.  The halt is effective nationwide.
tRump puts new sanctions against Iran.
2 tentutive orders direction the review of the Dodd-Frank financial regulations and halting implementation of another federal rule which mandates financial advisors to act in the best interests of their clients.

Saturday, Feb 4

Airlines resume allowing travelers once affected by tRump's travel ban to come to the US.

tRump is mad at the judge that over turned the immigration ban, tweeting "The opinion of this so-called judge which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!"  He later adds that because of the "terrible decision" that "many very bad and dangerous people may be pouring into our country."
