France Trip Day 5 - 6/20 Chateau des Chambord and Chateau d'Arpentis

Packed up.  Had a light breakfast and headed to Chateau des Arpentis to drop off our luggage.  We didn't even see our room, check in was in the afternoon.

Chateau des Arpentis is absolutely lovely!  It was so fortunate that Chateau de Nazalles dropped our last 3 days of reservations because this is much better....and no stinky toilet!

This is the Chateau des Arpentis where we dropped off our luggage. More later...after Chambord.
And then we were off to visit Chateau de Chambord.

Chambord was built as a hunting lodge for Francis I.  He rarely used it, though he let friends use it.  It is huge!

First sight of Chambord ....and no flood water in sight!

Just a piece of Chambord.  Quite a hunting lodge!  Those are chimneys on top.
It takes a lot of these to take the chill off.  We could smell the smoke from these fireplaces.
The famous staircase, a double helix, thought to be designed by Leonardo de Vinci

Part of the inside courtyard
Graffiti from the time of knights

On the roof - over 365 chimneys!  It takes a lot to warm a hunting lodge!

The structure in the center is the middle core of the staircase.

How would you like to mow this lawn!
